Thursday Night Acorn Presents: Steve Poltz Live Streaming Concert

Thursday, Apr. 02 | 8:00pm ET (7:00pm CT)

The Acorn's brand new live streaming series continues this Thursday night, 8pm ET on The Acorn Facebook page. This week's featured artist is Steve Poltz!

Future artists lined up for Thursday Night Acorn Presents: Nicholas Tremulis, Mark Dawson, Willie Nile and The Bergamot!

ABOUT STEVE POLTZ

Throughout over three decades in music, Steve Poltz did it all and more—often shared by way of his rockin’ countrified folk slices of sardonic Americana (hatched in Halifax). Of course, he co-wrote Jewel’s multiplatinum Hot 100-topping megahit “You Were Meant For Me,” but he also went on a whale watch with her and a few federales that turned into a drug bust. The two still share the story at every festival they play together. He made his bones as the frontman for underground legends The Rugburns, who burned rubber crisscrossing the continent on marathon tours and still pop up once in a while for the rare and quickly sold out reunion gig.

In 20 years since his full-length solo debut, One Left Shoe, he blessed the world’s ears with twelve solo records, spanning the acclaimed 2010 Dreamhouse and most recently Folk Singer in 2015. NPR summed it up best, “Critics and fans alike now regard Poltz as a talented and prolific songwriter.By 2016, he survived a stroke, endured anything the music industry could throw at him, and still performed like “280 days a year.

One More Time: The Newports Live at The Acorn

Saturday, Nov. 27 | 8:00pm ET (7:00pm CT)

Classic RockR & B

Join the Newports in closing out the 60th Anniversary Tour and celebrating the debut of their new single "Goin' Out West" at this festive event, Saturday of Thanksgiving Weekend. "One More Time: The Newports Live at the Acorn" is the band's last performance at the Acorn with legendary frontman Mark Rongers, who recently announced his retirement. The Newports are going to make sure this is one of his (and the band's) most memorable performances ever!

60th Anniversary? Yes, the band got its start in 1961 at Thornton Township High School in Chicago's south suburbs. The boys from Harvey Illinois performed throughout their high school years. Following a hiatus of more than 40 years, they reconvened in July 2014 for what was to have been a one-night stand hosting Open Mic at the Acorn. That was Mark's first performance with them, and the audience response was so overwhelming that they realized it was time to take the band back on the road. The 21st-Century edition of The Newports is proud to come back to the Acorn with Mark this one last time.

Opening the evening is the duo composed of veterans of the region's music scene, Greg Ashby & Chris Grove. Each has performed and recorded with some of the area's most popular bands (Marrakesh Express, Scamp, Steepwater, Nomad Planets, among others). Together, they have been amazing audiences with their intimate performances of the music of singer/songwriters ranging from Elton John to Bruce Springsteen.
