New Power Generation

Friday, Oct. 08 | 8:00pm ET (7:00pm CT)

Classic RockRock/Pop

Prince’s former backing band, the New Power Generation, performs an epic musical celebration of the legendary artist’s music that continues to wow both critics and fans alike.

The NPG’s “Celebrating Prince” shows have been described as a “non-stop musical kaleidoscope," that includes some of the most iconic chart-topping hits from all eras of Prince’s illustrious four-decade career. The charismatic lead singer, MacKenzie, has been called a “discovery of note,” and has won over audiences with his incredible voice and interpretation of the music without veering into impersonating. MacKenzie is joined on lead vocals by rapper Tony M, who Prince featured on early Prince & the New Power Generation releases. The show focuses on Prince’s entire catalogue with NPG hits like ‘Diamonds and Pearls,’ ‘Gett Off’, ‘Cream’ ‘7,’ and ‘Sexy MF’ intermingled with hits like ‘1999,’ ‘Let’s Go Crazy’, ‘Pop Life’, ‘Sign O’ The Times’, ‘Purple Rain’, ‘U Got The Look’ and ‘Kiss’.

An Evening of Tribute to CCR: The Dan McGuinness Band

Saturday, Aug. 28 | 8:00pm ET (7:00pm CT)

Classic RockRock/Pop

What makes this the top-tier CCR tribute experience is that the band includes two Rock and Roll Hall of Famers, who were there when these songs were brought to life - Stu Cook and Doug "Cosmo" Clifford. No other CCR tribute band in the world has a member that was in the band they're paying tribute to, let alone their singer.

Since 2016, Chicago-based Dan McGuinness has fronted Creedence Clearwater Revisited, led by Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and co-founding, original CCR members Stu Cook & Doug "Cosmo" Clifford.  With Revisited, Dan toured all over the globe performing the iconic CCR catalog. Fans can expect an accurate, high-energy and genuine re-creation of these classic songs when The Dan McGuinness Band comes to The Acorn on August 28th. Expect to hear all the favorite Creedence classics including "Bad Moon Rising," "Proud Mary," "Fortunate Son" and "Who'll Stop the Rain" as well as deeper cuts like "Bootleg" and "It Came Out Of The Sky."

Come sing along and enjoy an evening of historic rock anthems.

Tom Rush

Thursday, Sep. 30 | 7:30pm ET (6:30pm CT)

BluesFolk

An Evening with Tom Rush, accompanied by  up-and-coming Singer/Songwriter Matt Nakoa.

Now celebrating five decades of touring, Tom has been thrilling audiences here and abroad with hits like No Regrets, Circle Game, Remember Song, Urge for Going and Merrimack County.

Tom Rush’s impact on the American music scene has been profound. He helped shape the folk revival in the ’60s, the folk-rock movement of the ‘70s, and then the renaissance of the ’80s and ’90s, his music having left its stamp on generations of artists. James Taylor, Emmylou Harris, Tom Petty and Garth Brooks have cited Tom a major influence. His early recordings introduced the world to the work of Joni Mitchell, Jackson Browne and James Taylor. Subsequently, his Club 47 concerts brought national attention to emerging artists such as Nanci Griffith and Shawn Colvin.

As vital and engaging as ever, Tom is still doing what audiences love him for: writing and playing …passionately, tenderly…knitting together the musical traditions and talents of our times. He’s also celebrating a YouTube hit, The Remember Song, that’s gone viral with over 7 million views.

Modern English

Thursday, Jun. 30 | 8:00pm ET (7:00pm CT)

DanceRock/Pop

Legendary British band Modern English are coming to the Acorn with their original lineup! Simply put, "I Melt With You" by Modern English is one of the most iconic songs of the New Wave era. It garnered heavy rotation on the then-thriving Modern Rock radio format, MTV and dance clubs across the globe, and was prominently featured in the classic 1983 film Valley Girl, starring a young Nicolas Cage.

On 1982's After the Snow, the band's sound evolved from the dark, moody and challenging post-punk found on its debut, Mesh & Lace, to a more commercial and radio friendly mix of synthesizers, guitars, catchy drumbeats and singer Robbie Grey's unmistakable vocals.

As the title suggests, the icy sound featured on Mesh & Lace melted away on After the Snow to reveal more concise and potent songs, highlighted by "I Melt With You” which brought the band up from the underground to the mainstream. It's a song so popular that the band was honored with a Lifetime Achievement Award at the 2020 BMI Awards for six million plays on radio.

After the Snow was produced by the acclaimed Hugh Jones whose production credits include albums by Echo and the Bunnymen, Simple Minds, The Damned and many more, and the LP was released on the legendary 4AD Records in the UK and licensed to Sire Records in the U.S.
