The Steepwater Band with Nomad Planets

Friday, Nov. 11 | 8:00pm ET (7:00pm CT)

Rock/Pop

Chicago-based rockers The Steepwater Band returns to The Acorn! Opening the show is northwest Indiana-based band Nomad Planets.

About the Artists:

You should already know these songs. If the old saying about talent equaling success were true, then The Steepwater Band would already be a household name, rubbing shoulders with Aerosmith, Bad Company and other like-minded travelers in our collective Rock ‘n Roll Fantasy. But that’s not how things always work, and this band knows it and still leans into it, smiling, with everything in them, not for brass rings and marquees, but because they must! For them, the music life is a calling and not some stupid costume one puts on to shake loose gold, fame, and groupies. In a land of caricatures, it’s striking to come face-to-face with the real thing.

Something primal lurks in their music, but always wrestling with emotions and stories that are everyday-ready ~ music at once strut-inducing sexy and brass knuckles honest, a sound evolved smartly and patiently through countless gigs, running the bulls whenever and wherever they’ve been welcomed since 1998. AC/DC once said, “If you got the dollar, we got the song / Just wanna boogie woogie all night long,” and The Steepwater Band surely embodies this lip-smacking urge to get some in this mean old world, befitting the group’s Chicago roots and their earthy understanding of crackling city blues.

The abiding, resounding passion inside this band is never in question. Dive into their seemingly endless catalog of songs just about anywhere, and the heart and muscle pumping away inside every track are palpable and present in a most pleasing way. Their sound is like a soundtrack for arm wrestling The Devil and then drinking shots with him ’til sunrise after you’ve pinned him down. Their songs bridge the miles between lovers, throw lines to brothers and sisters in need of some understanding and a spark that makes them shuffle, eyes closed, shaking off the day’s heavy load, ready for another round because the right song by the right band made them feel they had enough fight left in them. That’s the kind of band you’re dealing with here, and they’ll be doing this long after all the pretty boys, package acts, and pretenders have left the stage. – Dennis Cook

Marrakesh Express

Saturday, Nov. 05 | 8:00pm ET (7:00pm CT)

Classic RockFolk

Marrakesh Express, "the" premier midwest Crosby Stills Nash and Young tribute, returns to The Acorn. Don't miss this CSNY experience featuring live performances of "Suite/Judy Blue Eyes," "Helpless," "Southern Cross," "Our House," "Carry On" and so much more.

About the Artists:

Marrakesh Express do not imitate as much as capture the spirit of the iconic CSNY. They are an organic, real band, with their own distinct personalities that shine through in their rapport with the audience. Their harmonies are gorgeous. They're great people -- fun and energetic. They are the most original tribute band you'll ever see.

A band dedicated to tributing CSNY is extremely rare due to the difficulty in replicating the 3- and 4-part vocal harmonies that made the group international superstars. Marrakesh Express excels at reproducing their complex songs and cascading, layered harmonies. The band takes the audience back to the late 1960s with musicians who bring an authentic hippie vibe and visual to the stage.

KASHMIR

Friday, Sep. 09 | 8:00pm ET (7:00pm CT)

Classic RockRock/Pop

Kashmir - Chicago’s premier Zep Tribute - brings only the best of Led Zeppelin to their audiences. Come be part of the experience of a '70s Zeppelin show utilizing authentic vintage stage gear, costumes, and special effects. Kashmir performs the music of Led Zeppelin with dead-on, note-for-note renditions. Be ready for an amazing trip!

About the Artists

As the show takes you through the history of Led Zeppelin utilizing vintage period correct equipment, instruments and costume changes you will be drawn into the essence and true vibe of a Led Zeppelin concert experience. 40-plus years of Led Zeppelin’s history are covered in a non-stop, high-energy show from the early days till the end of the band. Each member of Kashmir assumes the roles and mannerisms of Led Zeppelin in a non-pretentious tactful way. The show is performed with great respect and admiration for Led Zeppelin so as to keep the focus on a time when bands were popular due to word of mouth and not corporate gain. No two shows are alike.

Kashmir has worked constantly since 2001 (except during the pandemic) filling large venues everywhere. As time goes on the ever-changing Kashmir show has expanded wider than ever anticipated due to the fact that it is based on the true essence and influences of Led Zeppelin. Yes, Kashmir has focused deeply on the sound, but the look of the band is NOT neglected so as to reflect the imagery of Led Zeppelin. By studying the roots and history of Led Zeppelin a greater understanding is obtained so as to keep the audience engaged. In today’s world, everything is new and improved but this is one of those things that should NOT be changed or tampered with. Led Zeppelin’s entire catalog is referred to during a show starting at the early beginnings through the last studio album and also recreating many signature live sequences. Led Zeppelin’s show should “remain the same” with strict attention to detail. As the band notes: "It’s NOT about us, it’s about Led Zeppelin."

Mason Jennings with Daniel Deitrich

Sunday, Nov. 13 | 7:00pm ET (6:00pm CT)

FolkSinger-Songwriter

Minnesota-based pop-folk singer-songwriter Mason Jennings shares music from his newest record, Songs From When We Met.

About the Artist:

Jennings is originally from Honolulu, Hawaii. He is well known for his simple yet catchy melodies, intimate lyrics, intensely literary and historical themes, and deep tenor voice. His music has appeared in the surf film "Shelter" and he has toured extensively.

When Mason Jennings started writing songs for his new record, Songs From When We Met, he was in a setting he had never written in before. "I was living out at a farm for a month and walking through some old woods on the property every day. There was a river. And each day an owl would come find me, and then perch above me, day or night. I saw lots of snakes. Songs just came to me there. They were coming in so fast they just about took my head off. It was unlike anything I’ve experienced before,” recalls Jennings. In Native American animal medicine snakes symbolize rebirth, owls symbolize seeing what others cannot and turning darkness into light. Both are themes throughout the album and the music has a clear hopeful feeling.

Songs From When We Met pulls you in from the start, with Jennings telling the listener, "Get into my car now...let's leave the city." “Cursive Prayers is the first song I wrote for the album. I hadn’t written anything in a long time and any time I tried writing things I wrote were very dark. This song is so hopeful and full of love it surprised me. I think it was the beginning of things getting better in my life, like a message from another dimension." "The last record was made in a real dark time for me. I was battling a lot of dark energy. Since then I’ve healed a lot and a lot of changes have taken place. I got divorced. I’ve been healing from agoraphobia. It’s been a rough patch but thankfully this record is about healing and hope. I fell in love and got married so it is mostly about love." A great ambassador for the album is the slow grooving "I Know You." "The lyrics at the end of this song sum up the love tone of this album: “Most people don’t make sense to me, I don’t know much in this world you see, but I know you.”

The story of Songs From When We Met comes to an end with the track "Magic Is Real." "The rain on this track is real. We opened the doors of the studio and put mics up and that’s the sound of rain on the trees in Wisconsin. Rain is healing."

At the time in his career where a lot of musicians burn out, Mason has new energy and drive. "I’m just happy to have found true love and to be healing from that dark time. I was struggling to find hope and it found me. Music just burst out of me this year. It’s always been a life line but this is the most open I’ve felt."

Daniel Deitrich

Daniel Deitrich is a singer-songwriter born and raised in Southwest Michigan and now based in South Bend, Indiana. His honest, heartbreaking, yet hopeful lyrics find a home in massive Americana anthems, catchy Indie rock hooks, as well as intimate acoustic confessionals.

In 2011 Deitrich released his self-produced solo EP called Matter, followed by The Table EP in 2016, which was recorded in Durango Colorado with producer Michael Rossback (Gungor, The Brilliance) at the helm. In January 2020, Deitrich released Hymn for the 81% which quickly went viral, racking up over 700,000 views of the lyric video on YouTube.
